Children's rights are being ignored

Irish Independent Letters, 14th December 2010

With regard to the article in the Irish Independent, December 12, 2010, concerning Philip Delaney, why is it considered unethical to test on animals but perfectly all right to have tested on babies in Ireland in the 1960s?

Surely the institution at Bessborough that facilitated these trials and the people who authorised them should be held accountable?

To say that it 'happened a long time ago' is not good enough any more. These babies are now adults and their basic human rights were violated.

Shame on all concerned for allowing this to happen.

“In all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage, to know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning . . . and the most disquieting loneliness."

Alex Haley, Author of Roots
