Universal Periodic Review
In October of this year, Ireland will be examined by other UN countries on our human rights record, otherwise known as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).  This is the first time that this will happen.  In anticipation of this review, Adoption Rights Alliance has made submissions to both the Irish Human Rights Commission and the Irish Council of Civil Liberties' "Rights Now" campaign. On Monday 21st March 2011 we submitted our main report directly to the United Nations.

2010 Adoption Bill
Despite extensive lobbying and valiant efforts by opposition TDs, the 2010 Adoption Bill passed without a single provision for Irish adopted people who have been subjected to a closed secret adoption system since 1952.

We urge everyone affected by adoption in Ireland, along with family and friends, to demand an end to Ireland's closed secret adoption system, by contacting their local TD's.  Contact details are available here.

If you agree that adopted people's rights should be enshrined in legislation:

  • Click here to email Frances Fitzgerald, the Minister for Children

  • Visit your local TD's & Senator's clinics

  • Write to your local TD's & Senators

  • Sample Letters are being updated at the moment, check back soon
