Sean Ross Abbey
Sean Ross Abbey was run by the Sacred Heart Sisters, the same order of nuns that ran the Sacred Heart Convent in Bessboro Cork from 1930 until 1970. According to Mike Millotte's Banished Babies, 438 babies were secretly exported from Sean Ross Abbey to the US for adoption, second only to St. Patrick's Guild.
Records
for Sean Ross Abbey were until recently held at
Bessboro in Cork, however this agency has closed down and the issue of
administration of the files is in limbo. We recommend that you
write to the Adoption Authority at Shelbourne House, Shelbourne Road,
Dublin 4 to ask for assistance.
